Poole Britannia! Platinum Jubilee Exhibition and Celebration Day
After three months of creating an ambitious Jubilee celebration fit for our Queen’s glorious 70 year reign, the doors opened at Lighthouse, Poole to Poole Britannia! this weekend.
Starting the day while Hamworthy Primary Schools children had their singing rehearsal, while CoCreate’s Nina Bergius led a Community Dance workshop.
This was followed by a stunning performance from a few pupils from Hamworthy Park Junior and Twin Sails Infants Schools to open the Poole Britannia! Celebration Day.
CoCreate’s Alice Flynn held a Creative Writing workshop for Hamworthy Park Junior School pupils to practice their pieces ready to perform at 12.30pm.
Arts activities with Rachel Huggett, and volunteers Tracy Jones and Emma Roberts (Youth Volunteer) included Lino Printing to create a Platinum Jubilee design, and a Poole Britannia! Jubilee Parade.
The afternoon brought a second Community Dance workshop, Meet the Artist interview with marketing image HRH Then & Now portrait artist Rob Hughes, and Ali Sharpe’s Mass’d Sing Jubilee Singalong workshop.
The Mayor joined us from 2pm to be amongst the first community members to see our Poole Britannia! Exhibition, curated by Maureen La Frenais with installation help from Alix Digby-West Claire Austin, and Power House volunteers Laura and Kelly. Once again Lighthouse Technicians were a joy to work with!
To close the day, Canford Cliffs Community Choir were joined by a few community members to sing a Jubilee repertoire in Lighthouse’s Shirling Studio, with their stunning sound system.
So much fun was had by all, as we came together, to create, and celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.
Next stop a couple of Private Views for the pupils and students involved and for Power House friends and contacts. Saturday 9th July, Poole’s Mayor and Lady Mayoress join us for their third and final Poole Britannia! event, and meet some of the children and young people who created the legacy pieces.
Poole Britannia! Exhibition runs until Saturday 23rd July thanks to Arts Council England, BCP Council, Da Vinci’s Restaurant, and Lighthouse, Poole.
Photos of all our Jubilee activities and events will be added to our Gallery as soon as possible.
