Arts & Culture

To encourage the development and appreciation of artistic skills and craftsmanship, and the employment of those attributes for the benefit of Poole and its citizens.

We are reconnecting Poole’s citizens with the town’s artistic and artisan heritage and improving their wellbeing by engaging them in creative activity and providing them with opportunities to view and experience the work of aspiring and professional artists and musicians. The Power House building will contain art, music and dance facilities, performance areas, and a gallery for the display of work by creatives who use their artistic skills to interpret heritage or inform the public about societal issues.

Community Cohesion

To connect and promote collaboration between citizens, communities and organisations within Poole.

We are connecting communities within Poole’s town centre and beyond by running events and activities, and providing an events calendar. Poole High Street is surrounded by a number of disconnected communities. The Hamworthy community is separated from Poole by the Regeneration Area, much of which remains to be developed. The developers are not proposing to build any genuine community facilities, other than a replacement facility for Poole Rowing Club. The Power House building, which we hope will be built in the Regeneration Area, will be a modern community centre serving and linking these various communities.

Growth Hub

To help individuals and voluntary organisations in Poole to become more effective contributors to society.

We are committed to the personal development of members of our community and promoting local businesses. In this fast-changing world, it is important that people of all ages understand their strengths and weaknesses, and develop their talents and skills. We aim to supplement the services available from schools and the local council. Poole has lost many of its independent retailers and there is a lack of appropriate space for small businesses. We encourage Poole residents to shop in their neighbourhoods and use local tradesmen. The Power House building will contain space for self-employed workers.

Health & Well-Being

To encourage citizens of Poole to take a proactive approach to maintaining their health and wellbeing.

We are focused on improving the health and wellbeing of local residents. We aim to develop social prescription services to relieve the pressure on local NHS services. Engagement in creative activity is a key element of wellbeing and we run art workshops that are designed to improve mental health. The Power House building will contain space for dance, fitness classes, and quiet reflection, and will serve as a volunteering hub.

Youth

To inspire and support young people in Poole, helping them to integrate within its social fabric.

We provide young people with opportunities to increase their confidence, improve their mental health, develop life skills and identify careers. Schools, councils and health services cannot meet the demand for youth services so we aim to fill gaps and supplement existing provision. There is no youth club in Poole town centre or lower Hamworthy and a lack of spaces for young people to gather. The Power House building will contain space for young people to socialise, learn and develop healthy behaviours. It will also provide opportunities for them to engage with adults and contribute to Poole’s communities.

We are in the process of recruiting a new Youth Project Lead to take on and grow our Youth Project offer including Youth Volunteer opportunities.
