The Raised Beds Are Finished!
A very big thank you to Poole Men’s Shed and other Hamworthy community members who volunteered their time over four weekends to construct and fill the beds. We held a King’s Coronation Big Help Out which drew in a family from Broadstone through our Radio Solent interview, and another 11 adults and children. Hamworthy Scouts also helped fill some beds at the end of June. Our final 2 beds completed at our Autumn Celebration thanks to Grounded Community’s Michael French, and Hamworthy community members John, and two lads, who all worked hard and got mucky!
We grew a fine crop of tomatoes, yellow and green courgettes, carrots, potatoes, runner beans, mashed potato squash, mini Jack-O-Lanterns, and a pumpkin that Muddy Boots Nursery came with Cllr Brian Hitchcock to harvest ready for our Community Shared Meal in November.
Elaine who has dedicatedly volunteered with us throughout the year has loved picking our divinely smelling Sweet Peas and sharing with her group of friends - all of who used to swim in the pool when they were pupils at Herbert Carter School.
Michael French gave a presentation as part of session offered as part of the school’s Values Day. He has given us some valuable insights on how to bring forward the Patch, and we will be inviting Grounded’s Jonno to design a permaculture for the Patch. School have given permission for us to install raised beds around the edge of the compound which we will progress once Phase 2 Cornerstone Patch installation is under way.
