Mosaic madness. 7 legacy mosaic plaques

Hamworthy Park Junior and Twin Sails Infant School worked with David Bowers of “Mosaic Madness”, Bristol to create 7 legacy mosaic plaques, which celebrated the 7 decades that the Queen had reigned for.

Initially David was contacted by Hamworthy Park Junior School’s Art Lead, Leisa Brooker, who had previously worked with him before at another local Poole school. She had been impressed with David’s ability to organise and carry out large scale mosaic pieces, which involved a large number of school children and staff. Therefore she knew he would be perfect for this Jubilee legacy project.

865 pupils from The Federation of Hamworthy Primary Schools were invited to submit designs which related to the decade of the Queen’s reign that each year group were studying. From 204 submissions, 29 designs were shortlisted and then David guided the Hamworthy Primary Schools and Power House Jubilee Team to select the final winning images, which had ‘mosaicability’. Over 200 children and and many staff laid the tiles. The Power House team were also invited in to lay a few of the tiles too. The mosaic pieces of artwork were based on the life and times of the Queen and other historical UK events which had occured over the last 70 years.

These pieces were displayed at The Lighthouse Gallery and will then be mounted at the entrance of The Federation of Hamworthy Primary Schools.
