Ali sharpe’s jubilee song
The Power House approached established Choir Director, Ali Sharpe to explore community singing as part of the Poole Britannia! Platinum Jubilee Project. Ali had already had the creative spark to compose and write a Jubilee song, so the synergy with our Platinum Jubilee project was perfect and the “Jubilee Song” was born.
The Jubilee Song is based upon Elizabethan music and folk dance ideas. It has a simple repetitive tune with the option for percussive additions and/or a xylophone drone and is primarily written in the Dorian mode but ends with a verse and chorus sung in a major key.
There are options for sequential dance movements and it can even channel an additional ‘rap’ which can be chanted over a quieter sung rendition of the chorus.
It was a joy to have Ali and the Canford Community Choir join us as part of our Poole Town Jubilee Pop-up and singing in the Dolphin Centre with the new Mayor of Poole and lady Mayoress, along with a large crowd of shoppers. On the day, Ali and the choir sang a repertoire of songs.
Furthermore, the song was gifted to the Year 5s and Year 6s of Hamworthy Park Junior School. The children spent two weeks learning the song and the children sang it to over 1000 parents who attended The Federation of Hamworthy Schools Platinum Jubilee celebration day.
